This is why you are Experiencing Signal Loss on 119 This is why you are Experiencing Signal Loss on 119

It's not a solar flare issue at all.
solar flares come off the sun and effect the satellites transmission. Solar flares just can't target one bird; also a solar flare blast that is capable of distupting the signal transmision of one bird almost always results in disrupting multiple birds particularly when they are this close together. If this were to happen 110 would more than likely also be affected as 110 and 119 are only 9 degrees apart. It would be highly unlikely that a solar flare would not affect Direc TV's 101 posistion 9 degrees in the oppisite direction. There were numerous solar flares reported this year. (they usually erupt in 11 year cycles) The last peak was in 2000. Fresh sunspots during this October suggest that the corner has been turned. On Nov. 3 and again on Nov. 4, a sunspot numbered 1007 unleashed a series of B-class solar flares. These relatively minor events were strong enough to cause fades and surges in ham radio transmissions on Earth. Bigger flares, which could happen any time but will be more likely when the next peak comes in a few years, can disable satellites.
Were just not there yet.
If you have not experienced the issue it's because your not on 119 at night.
The problem is a failing bird. E7 at 119 is dying about 8-10 years early.
I was told that the problem is being worked on for 3 days now...that there is a problem with the 119 sat.
A discription of the problem was "119 satellite drifting occured because of batteries loss of charge".
My guess would be a battery issue as it seems to be worst at night passing into earth's shadow solar pannels DO NOT pick up any charge and the batteries slowly die over night.
As for the backup issue, now dish network has essentially no backup for anything. E10 and E11 are at 110, but one is all spotbeams and the other is all CONUS. one fails, and the other can't help out.
Most have reported some poor PQ and pixelation at times (night) and only on the even TP's. E7 is only 6 years old.
DN is working on a solution. They have known about this issue for years. Echo star 14 is supposed to got to 119. It is launching as early as late next year. Hopefully E7 can hold out.
Are we looking at a real prospect of 119 going totally offline.
Now.......
THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL
but a possible solution......
You should be aware by now that Ciel-2 is going to be launched to replace 129 in about 15 days.
echo star 7 runs 34 tp's and the current bird in the 129 slot is Echo star 5.
move E5 to 119 and piggy it on E7 to restore programing stability. At least till next year when E14 goes up.
echo star 5 is only running 25 transponders, IIRC due to power issues.
maybe a E5 and E7 combo?
I have been informed that DN has addressed the issue and it should stop.....
TONIGHT. (11/25/2008)
No idea how they apperently "fixed" it
as of 10:00pm & again at 11:00pm there was still a fair amount of pixelation on 119.
nice fix Charlie.
