System Requirements:

· Windows XP 32/64 bit or Windows Vista 32/64 bits.

· Dot net framework 2.0.

By default, Windows Vista is already shipped with dot net framework 2.0. You can also download dot net framework 2.0 from the Microsoft websites:

Installation:

· Unzip the zip file downloaded and execute the file “Setup.exe”.

· Follow the instruction on the screen. If dot net framework 2.0 is not installed in your PC, the installation process will automatically download and install it for you.

· Be sure your computer have the minimum required configuration.

Uninstallation:

1. Go to control panel and select “Add or Remove Programs” for Windows XP or “Programs and Features” for Windows Vista.

2. Find Readon Free Internet TV and Online Radio from the list and click “Remove” button.

Locking Adult Contents:

· Click on “File” on the menu strip and select “Settings”.

· Key in an alpha-numeric password in the password field and click on the “Set Password” button. A message “Password Activated” should popup. Please remember your password. If you forget your password, you may have to uninstall and reinstall this software.

Unlocking Adult Contents:

· Click on “File” on the menu strip and select “Settings”.

· Key in the correct password in the password field and click on the “Unlock Contents” button. A message “Contents Unlocked” should popup if the correct password is entered.

Add a channel to favorites:

· Click on your channel of choice on the TV or Radio list. The channel will be highlighted in blue.
· Right click and select “Add to Favorites”.
· Now the channel will be available in the favorites list.

Adding a new channel:

You can add a new channel to the database by either

Right click on the channel list and select “Add New”.
Or
Click on “Tools” of the menu strip and select “Customize User List”. Then click on “Add New” button.

You should see a window prompting you to key in the channel details. You are strongly encouraged to send us this new channel information so that this channel can be shared with all others using this software.

*Please note that the URL field does not refer to the website with embedded video. Take for example, when you visit the website "http://www.readontech.com/embedded.html" with your internet browser, you will see an embedded TV streaming on the page. However, the actual streaming URL is "mms://82.114.65.202:255/". To check for the actual URL to add, you can try to right click on the streaming video, select properties on the context menu and the actual URL can be found under the location field. Some websites does not allow you to right click and access to the context menu. You will have to read the HTML code of the page in order to extract out the streaming URL. The discussion of extracting streaming URL from HTML code is beyond the scope of this reference guide.

Removing channel:
To remove a channel from the favorites list, select the channel from the list and press the “Delete” key. You can also right click and select “Delete Favorite”. To remove a customized channel, go to “Tools” of the menu strip and select “Customize User List”. Next, select the channel you wish to remove and then click on “Delete” button.


Automatic Updates:
Go to “File -> Settings” of your menu. Check the option “Automatically check for updates …. Starts”. Now the software will always check for channel list updates whenever the program starts.

Manual Updates: Select “Check for Updates” under the “Tools” menu. Automatic update should start right away.

MP3 Recording
You can record audio playing from Readon Internet TV and Online radio to MP3 audio files for your IPOD or other MP3 players.
To start recording, select “Record Audio” under the “Tools” menu. Choose the correct sound card and recording line and then click the “Rec” button.
If you encounter any problem related to MP3 recording, you should click on the “Troubleshoot” button for more details.

Channel Preview: You can choose to preview a channel before viewing it in the main screen. To preview a channel, right click on your choice of channel and select “Preview” from the menu.

Full Screen: You can only enter full screen mode when a channel is playing. To enter full screen, click on the button while a channel is playing. To exit from full screen, you can either press the “Esc” key or left double click anywhere on the screen. However, you can only left double click to exit from full screen if you are using VLC plugin to play the channel.

Automatic Shutdown:



Select “Set Shutdown Time” from the “Tools” menu. From there, you can set a date and time for the program to auto shut down. If the “Shut down PC as well” option is selected, then your computer will be turned off at the specified date and time.

Movie Viewer:

Readon Player supports movies on demand and adult video on demand from version 2.0.0.0 onwards.

When selecting a movie on demand, a separate movie viewer window will popup. Click on the play button for the movie to start playing.

to download a movie from the movie on demand list, right click on the movie list and select "Download".

Live Sports:

Readon Player supports live sports version 4.0.0.0 onwards.

When the user clicks on the Live Sports tab, Readon Player will get the list of sports channels currently showing. Here you get to watch a large variety of sports including NBA, soccer from major leagues, cricket, etc.

Some of the channels requires the user to install SopFilter. You can get SopFilter installation package by clicking here.

Recording with VLC:

This feature is only available after you have installed VLC plugin. To start recording, right click on the channel list and select "Try to record with VLC" on the menu strip. Not all channels can be recorded with VLC.

Adult On Demand Search Engine:

This feature is available with Readon Player version 3.0.0.0 onwards.

FAQs and Troubleshooting

First of all, please make sure that Readon Player is not blocked by any firewall. All TV, movies and radio channels and updates are running with internet as its backbone; blocking internet access with a firewall just does not make any sense.

Question 1: Channel won't play.
Answer:
1) Make sure you have meet the minimum requirement by having the following installed in your PC:
Windows Media Player
and
Adobe Flash Player
and
Internet Explorer
2) Just like any TV station, the channel you are trying to view may not be have a 24/7 schedule. You can try to access the particular channel later if it is offline.
3) Some TV channels require a very high bandwidth (as high as 2Mbits/sec). Make sure you have access to a good and reliable broadband internet.
4) Some of the stations may be experiencing heavy load and just cannot cater to a large number of viewers.
5) Make sure you are not behind a firewall that prevents internet video and audio streaming. Contact your network administrator for assistance.
6) Some TV and Radio stations may be made unavailable permanently because the owner has taken it offline. In this case, you are strongly encouraged to report the dead channel link to us so that we may serve you better.
7) On your Window Media Player, go to tools->options->network. Make sure all the checkboxs are enabled (RTSP/UDP, RTSP/TCP, HTTP, Recieve multicast streams). Also, make sure your streaming proxy settings are correct.

8) Each channel is running on a different server. The popular channels may already be saturated with users and therefore will not accept new incoming connections. This is especially true for shoutcast channels. You can try again later.

Question 2: Automatic updates don't work.

Answer:

Readon Free Internet TV and Online radio is using the configuration of your internet explorer to download the latest channel list. So make sure that you have access to the internet with your IE.

Question 3: Software flickers too much.

Answer:

Your hardware graphic acceleration may not be working properly. Try to lower it to the settings “Disable all DirectDraw and Direct3D accelerations. If this work, you should contact your graphic card vendor for a solution.

The graphic acceleration settings can be found in Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot.

Question 4: MP3 recording don't work.

Answer:

Please click on the “Troubleshoot” button of the audio recording window for more details.

Question 5: There are lot more dead movie links than TV or Radio.

Answer:

Many movie files have a very short lifetime (from hours to days) before they will be deleted. This may be due to copyright infringement. We are not hosting, not uploading movie files, we just search & collect movie files from the internet, therefore we can't fix broken file, we can just find another copy elsewhere and we are trying constantly to do it as fast as we can. You should check for new channel list updates frequently! Please be patient and sorry for any inconveniences!

Question 6: I cannot record video with VLC for certain channels. Some channels can only record video for a few seconds.

Answer:

Contrary to what many people think, VLC cannot play every codec out there. VLC also differs from windows media player when reading an internet playlist. If you have problem with certain channels, use VLC ActiveX (only supported in Readon Player version 5.5) instead of the plugin to record channel. Make sure you have the latest VLC player installed when using the ActiveX version.

Question 7: Why don't you use ActiveX instead of plugin for VLC.

Answer:

When the first version of Readon Player was released, the ActiveX that comes bundled with the VLC media player is buggy and immature, and supports alot lesser formats than the actual player itself. However Readon Player has included the support for ActiveX ever since VLC 0.9.9 is released. VLC ActiveX is still very buggy, and sometimes can cause instability on the PC running it. However, the developers at ReadonTech have taken care that the part that can cause chaos is never used in Readon Player.

Question 8: Flash movies won't play even I have flash player installed. It keeps giving me errors.

Answer:

You should use Internet Explorer to install Flash player. Open this website with IE (not other browser) and follow the instruction for installation of flash player.

Question 9: The new version of Readon Player fails to start.

Answer:

Try uninstalling the player and then reinstall it on a different folder. The newer version configuration file may conflict with older versions.

Question 10: Can I use Readon Player with Windows 7?

Answer:

Currently only Windows RC1 release build 7100 is available. The actual commercial product is not yet available. After testing with windows 7 RC1, we have found the following issues:

1. You cannot record audio to mp3.

2. You will be able to see the control bar of WMP, although it is supposed to be hidden. This is a mere annoyance but will not cause any problem.

The rest of the features work the same as it is on Vista/XP.
We will make Readon Player compatible with Windows 7 ASAP.

Question 11: I have a HD monitor and would like to watch my TV channel full screen without the black boarders at the side.

Answer:

You can try to play the channel with VLC and then choose the aspect ratio that fits your monitor at Menu->view->VLC aspect ratio. (Only available for version 5.5.0.0)

Question 12: Readon Player is working fine on one PC of mine but not on another PC.

Answer:

Readon Player depends heavily on ActiveX components to work. Most ActiveX components are developed specifically for Microsoft product (esp INTERNET EXPLORER). Make sure your IE is in mint condition before using Readon Player. Some add-ons or toolbars can create havoc for IE. Uninstall any of them if they are causing problems for you. Google toolbar can be a source of problem as well. If your IE has issues with loading pages (even if it is intermittent), then Readon Player will not work well.

Question 13: I can play most of the ShoutCast channels using VLC plugin but not with VLC ActiveX.

Answer: Most likely you are experiencing the same issue as 'Question 12'. Make sure your IE is in very good condition.
