It would depend on the evidence that the courts had against freetech that they had developed S/W that would defeat D**h encryption when loaded on one of their units. This would only be against freetech and not any other mfg. They plea bargained to lesser charges and penalties (like not going to jail would be a biggie). If it had gone to trial and they were found guilty by a jury it then would have set a precedence that would have had impact on future similar cases and manufactures. In a plea bargain you don't admit guilt, you just feel that if it were to go to trial you feel strongly that you would in fact loose.

by the balls... hmmmmmm... sounds like Freetech didn't have the capabilites to shake them loose! Either they couldn't prove the evidence wrong or they didn't have the money to fight. So a plea bargin just doesn't count... it's just a decision made that shuts someone out and that someone was Freetech, which gave up everything. Sad. What would be Freetechs next move? Guess they can't do anything with their assets gone and their doors closed. Coolsat is obselete now? Are there any other units effected by this? Thanks Putski and MaxTV!

A plea bargain does set a precedent that can be used by Lawyers to prosecute or defend (in Criminal Court), it is a matter of Court Record. As far as Freetech settling and not admitting guilt, they do have to pay a large sum of money (hmmmm .... may be they did do something wrong?). They more than likely will start a new company with a new name and do the same thing 'cause they know they will make money at it. I cannot imagine the people involved will just give up all the assets they have. They will also probably move to another country were US Courts cannot reach them. (Just what alot have done in the past.)

I figured something like that would happen to Freetech. Our system seems to want to run businesses out of the country. You guys are really up on all this! I just got into this just by buying a Viewsat receiver and now I've learned all sorts of stuff from ya'll! Thank you all very much for taking the time to explain it! Now I'm on Goggle most the time looking for info... it's just very interesting. All these years I've never known anything about these receivers. While I was watching and paying out the behind for cable... all this was going on in the background! It just amazes me! Now I can't get enough info and you guys are great! Thanks, again!
