Default IKS receivers overview

Kbox

Freezing is virtually non existent. Very little downtime, any is generally due to addition of more channels, and only for a few minutes when down.

Has PVR and a great picture. I would rate the picture as the best pic quality of any SD unit. No HD model available at this time.

Working channels:

Sats 110w & 119w (Most everything on these sats, minus locals and PPV)

Sat 118.7 w (virtually all international channels on this sat)

Sats 91w & 82w (almost everything on 91 except PPV and some locals. NFL Sunday Ticket is working)

Cost is around $200 for Kbox Prodigy and the Khub.

Nfusion

Two SD models available..

(1) the Solaris which is essentially a revamped Nova and cost about $180-190. Is NF base model. Decent picture, recording is via IPPVR, many have issues with recording.

(2) the Phoenix, the mid-level version. Cost is around $210. Better pic than the Solaris. Recording again is via IPPVR, many issues reported with it

An HD version of this brand is available. The NFusion HD. Cost is around $400, 8PSK module included.

Some people were reporting freezing over the last few weeks, but that seems to have been corrected. Was reported it was due to security upgrades being made to the servers. Very little actual downtime reported.

All NFusion models have built in etherent ports, no external device needed for internet access.

NF has a great channel list as well. Most DN and Bev, some locals on Bev. No PPV movies.

CNX

All CNX models are now IKS supported. The Mini, Nano, Duo and Trio need a dongle add on which costs around $90-100. The newest, the Nano2, needs no dongle for web interface, has built in ethernet chip. From my research. it seems that the CNX models are the most cost efficient of the IKS brands, the Nano2, the newest, can be picked up for around $150-160.

The CNX line has a very good SD picture, I would rate it a bit better than the SV line of SD receivers. Better than the NF line, not as good as Kbox. No HD CNX model is available.

The Nano2 has been very stable since I set it up. The others have had some issues, but for the most part that seems to have been corrected. Any downtime of late has been due to server and security upgrades or for the addition of channels. I do notice intermittent freezing on my CNX receiver, a couple of times an hour, but only for a couple of seconds, not really an issue.

PVR for recording is available on most if not all CNX models. No major issues reported with it.

While the CNX line of receivers does not have a channel list nearly as robust as the Kbox or NFusions, the majority of DN channels form 110 and 119 are available, minus the PPV movies and locals.

Sonicview

Three IKS supprted models....the SV 360 Premier ($120), the SV360 Elite ($140) and the SV8000 HD ($260 + 8psk module $70). To utilize IKS, and iHub must be used, it costs around $60.

SV came out great guns with the implementation of N3. They had a really huge IKS supported channel list on DN and Bev. But nearly as fast as they came up and were working began experiencing much freezing and downtime. Eventually shut things down and made an attempt to essentially start over. Some stability has been regained, but there is still quite a bit of freezing and downtime. And the channel list has been obliterated. Limited working channels on DN, and no Bev.

All have PVR that works really good.

Picture quality is good.

Question Kbox until N4?

VS ultra owner with a basic set-up...dual lnb-DP 500 pointed at 110 & 119.
I'm convinced IKS is the only way. Will this be like before (minus locals and PPV)? Will this last until N4? Ihub is included and no dongle (wtf is dongle)?
This is your best product out there? Hasn't been down since 8/17? Even then short lived and adding channels? Is prodegy only/recommended/cheapest product? Reputible dealer? I have dial up. I'll need broadband? Only sat service where I am, does download speed matter? Does the Quality of my PC matter? Wireless options...your take?

I'm contemplating my next move. I'd rather harvest the signal myself...difficult move? What haven't I thought of (hardware or other)?

Q. What is A Dongle?
A. Dongle is a small piece of hardware that connects to a computer.
The usual function of a dongle is to authenticate a piece of software. Without the dongle, the software will run only in a restricted mode,
or not at all.

Dongles are used by some proprietary vendors as a form of copy prevention or digital rights management, because it is much harder to copy a dongle than to copy the software it authenticates.

Despite being hardware, however, dongles are not a complete solution to the trusted client problem. Vendors of software-protection dongles (and dongle-controlled software) often use terms such as hardware key, hardware token,
or security device instead of dongle, but the term "dongle" is much more common in day-to-day use. Vendor to engage in vendor lock-in and charge more than it would otherwise for the product.

Q. Is this Legal?
A. Yes 100% The puropse of this dongle is to receive weather forecasts and many
cool games that will be added soon

A. The dongle connects to the receiver and allows the receiver to connect
to the internet to receive updates, weather information, and much more.

Q. What is IKS?
A. IKS uses a key exchange to set up a shared session secret, from which
cryptographic keys are derived. Public key techniques or, alternatively, a
pre-shared key, are used to mutually authenticate the communicating parties.

Q. What does IKS stand for?
A. IKS Is short for Internet Key Sharing

Wireless option is available with wireless router and enternet bridge but direct connection is better. No your PC has nothing to do with it, IKS receivers connect to routers. KBox is a great IKS receiver it has least down time and most channels available so you can't go wrong with KBox. We don't sell receivers but look for an authorized and trusted dealer if you decide to buy a new STB. I hope that clears it up for you a bit more.

Question pick your brain just a bit more

You say Kbox Prodegy has built in Ihub w/no dongle needed?
Are there other models of Kbox that are even better?
Do you think downtime will continue to be low, and system should work until N4?
Look at my previous post, based on the (previously working) system I have, is there any additional hardware I would need?

Bottom line.... satellite broadband + KBox + frustration < or = to subcription

really trust your judgement

KBox needs a K-Hub but most dealers included K-Hub in the price.
No this is the best KBox receiver.
Yes this will work until N4 and probably even after the N4 if supported by the KBox coders.
As for the downtime it is impossible to say but most likely should only get better.

Your dish will work just fine but you will need a router to split Internet connection so that your receiver and computer can work at the same time. Here is a good picture that kind of explains how it works:

Hope this helps.

Default thanks for advice

where would you buy a KBox at?
Does KBox also support a stand alone fix (if it ever comes)?

I read a lot of these threads (more these last couple of months) and appeciate the way (all of) you respond to basic questions. You all took a fella who can't hook up a DVD player and gave me a working vs ultra (although pointing the dish about klled me). Depending on how fast the mail runs, dust off your KBox skills, 'cause I'll be back.

Yes KBox could support a standalone fix.

KBox does need a dongle, you can take a look at this link it shows you which receivers need a dongle and which ones don't >>> List of working IKS FTA receivers
