Default hdmi to dvi converter?

I have a 34" Toshiba high def tube TV that has a dvi input and no hdmi. Does anyone know the proper adapter or cable to hook up the hdmi output of my stb? I bought a dvi to hdmi adapter from B.Buy made by Rocketfish, but it does not work. On the box it says "sends digital video signal from a single-link dvi output to an hdmi input." I think it must be for connecting a computer to an hdmi input. Any advice out there?

c/p info.

You can connect DVI to HDMI, providing the DVI is the Digital variety - ie: DVI-D. The signal is 100% compatible with no loss of quality. You can use either DVI-HDMI adapters, or a cable which is terminated with DVI-D at one end and HDMI at the other. Of course the extra features of HDMI will be forfeited (digital audio and communications bus), but otherwise it's fine.

You cannot connect DVI-I to HDMI, as HDMI is digital only. You'll find that most HDMI-DVI adapters do not have the facility for the additional four pins of DVI-I, hence a physical fit is not possible. Use only DVI-D cables with a HDMI adapter, or vice versa.

I am not sure that your tv is High Definition, i have never seen HD TV without HDMI input. You can convert from HDMI to DVI but not the other way around.

My tv is definitely high definition, I've been running bev sub hd for years. The tv is a bit older (2004) and HDMI didn't exist yet. It has component inputs and dvi. I did some research and apparantly the nfusion hd is a bit finicky with the older tv's with dvi input. I have read of others with this same problem. It has something to do with digital copy protection issues between the formats.

I exchanged the dvi-hdmi adapter for a cable with DVI-D on one end and HDMI on the other. It did not work either.

There is a web site with various cables that are difficult to find. You will need to match the DVI up with the specific kind of plug you have on your TV Set. There are Analog, combo Digital/Analog, and Digital DVI plugs.I will send the site name to a private post.

Thanks Sharkie G,

I think I'm going to stick with the component cable on this set and get a long hdmi cable for the lcd display in the basement.

I have an Hitachi 52 inch HD tv and I used Monster component video cables because my tv doesn't have HDMI it does have DVI.But I changed back to S-Video because I did not like watching HD in Letterbox format. Its not as good but at least I use my full screen.

Hey Ekim ... I had a 50" Hitachi Projection Screen TV, until the Light Engine went bad. $970 for just the part ... so got a Samsung 50" Plasma. Any way are you running the CPU monitor and sound?
