Hold down the button for what you are trying to program and the OK button tell the light stays on then enter your codes.If you enter the right code your tv vcr etc should shut off.

Didn't you get the manual with it? Usually manual tells you for X brand press X numbers and if it shuts it off if that's the right code. For example Sony TV code,1000,0000,12345 etc.
