Default Viewsat ultra's/"Q" variances

I had a string of questions back in November when I could only hit 119, and had trouble with 110. Winter has ended, so I went back to work and now I am happy to report I have hit both birds. I have "dual" LNB's with twin ports. I have 2 viewsat ultra. The newer one is connected to the dish via a 60 foot cable, the Q is at 100. When I endeavoured to hook up the 2nd unit, which is an older ultra model, at first the receiver was shorting on and off. I checked all of the connections, and the troubles continued. The entire distance of this cable to receiver was 45 feet. A friend suggested I try a power amplifier on this cable, so I cut it, put it in, and the shorting stopped, and I am able to test. However, the Q is only about 90, which is actually pretty good I think. My question is what would have caused the receiver to "short" when I first was hooking it up, and secondly why would the Q be lower on the second unit even afte I put in a power amplifier, and as well the cable distance is shorter, any thoughts from the pros would be appreciated, thanks again

I know that a lot of ppl are having the same problems as you when connecting 2 units mostly VS receivers. Good call on installing power amplifier, i wouldn't worry about it 90 % signal is very good and you shouldn't have any problems with your receivers.

thanks, do not misunderstand, I am very very happy with 90%. My other question was what would cause the receiver to short on and off when I was first hooking it up? any ideas, just curious, thanks again!!

The amplifier only stabilizes the signal, most of the time you will see about %6 to 10% signal improvements but not always.

Q; what would have caused the receiver to "short"
A: hard to say but most likely was a problem with connection because everything seems to be working fine now using the same LNB's

Anything over 85% is good signal.

thanks for the feedback. I still have some issues. I have 1 dish, dual LNB's, twin outlets, at 110/119. 2 ultra receivers. I can switch the lines that feed the receivers, I can switch the receivers from 1 TV the other, and I can change which Disq switch box they are on, but on the LCD TV, no matter which of the 2 recivers or whiuch set up I use, the Q is far much lower on many channels, even with a power amplifier. I am down to considering only 3 other reasons for the difference. one, is there any way that the the different TV's affect this, the answer has to be no. Or in the feed to the LCD Tv, is it possible I am getting lower "Q" strength because the power to this receptable is being shared in other devices such as the CD/DVD player in the same area and off the same outlet with a powerbar? Or is the fact that I also draw a feed into this TV via a separate line to a Bell dish I subscribe to possibly the problem? to accomplish this I was sold a "sutable" splitter at the local electronics store that allows me to turn the feed from one to the other and also cut the power input off to ensure that there is no surges and to ensure that the separate receivers are not susceptable to a power surge. any further suggestions or feedback is appreciated, thanks again

Bell could be the problem, having 2 lines from 2 different providers might interfere with each other.
