I got tired of losing my movies and shows and I have found that the following procedure allow me to recover and not lose anything.

How to Recover USB HD for ViewSat MaxHD

1. Download Knoppix 5.1 or newer version and burn to CD. Knoppix Linux
2. Boot system with Knoppix CD.
3. Click on Command window.
4. Type “su”, Press “Enter”.
5. Type “dumpe2fs /dev/sda1 | grep superblock”, Press “Enter” (sda1 can be different for your system, you need to find the drive and replace that for sda1)
6. fcsk –b 32768 /dev/sda1
7. Press “y” and hold when system says, “Free blocks count wrong for group… etc Fix? Yes”
8. Let go of “y” when system says, “*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***”
9. Shutdown system.
10. Remove USB HD and pull back into to Viewsat.
